Movies, videos, computers and cameras are commonplace in the home. Vehicles are now a new canvas for endless possibilities and entertainment.
Rear seat entertainment tops this category. Headrest monitors with a built-in DVD player are installed in each headrest with an array of options such as the ability to play movies right out of your iPod. Large people-hauling vehicles started the trend, but now sedans such as Mercedes and BMW are just as popular.
Many vehicle manufacturers are factory installing screens that drop down from the headliner, these of course cut down on the cost of equipment and cover a larger viewing area. But with headrest monitors, individual viewing preferences can be catered to, while also giving a more comfortable viewing angle. Myron & Davis, a leader in this field, manufacturers a high quality product with very careful matching of the color and texture of the leather. The style of stitching is recognized and even on a Range Rover, the contrasting piping color is matched.
For infants unable to wear headphones, the sound can be played through the vehicle's audio system. But trust me, if your passengers can wear the infrared wireless headphones, it will be your choice as the driver. It is possible to watch different movies on each monitor, or the same movie piped to both, or all four, five or six monitors! A cost example: Two headrests with 7" widescreen monitors and DVD in both, along with all accessories installed is $2,500.
Either as an add-on to the above system, or added to the factory installed system, is a monitor in the front of the vehicle. $1,000 installed.
SYSTEM OVERRIDES
Various forms of entertainment (DVD, iPod), can be piped into the front navigation monitor. For vehicles that can already play movies through the navigation, but are cut out while driving, an override can be installed for passengers and only for off road use.
The DOT now prohibits the entering of navigation information while the vehicle is moving. For those that have a passenger that could be doing this, an override can be incorporated.
LIVE STREAMING VIDEO
Sirius Satellite is now offering live streaming video. I am able to bring this into your system. Due to current bandwidth limitations, they choose only three stations to transmit, but this should increase over time. As the obvious choice, they lined up: The Disney Channel, Nickelodeon and The Cartoon Network.
