This category of my work, is wide open to suggestions.....your suggestions. If you have an idea, run it by me, I may be the person for the job or have advice for other avenues. Here are some examples:
SPECIALTY SOUNDS, HORNS
An official had occasions, when stuck behind a car, in which the driver didn't notice the traffic light change. Despite using the car horn, the person would still be lost in a cell phone call.
He suggested an Emergency Vehicle "Pusher", the system that makes the "Goose Honk" and "Whoop" sounds, as you hear when an emergency vehicle is coming across an intersection. Wired to momentary push button switches, to give the quick wake up call needed.
Using Whelen products, one of the finest and most used brands in emergency vehicles, this suggestion was answered. This is a project I now do on a regular basis. The cost is $1,400 installed. It is the customer's responsibility to assure that their use of such a product is permissible.
POWER WINDOWS FOR 1960 CLASSIC
$700,000 for the restoration of a 1960 Mercedes Benz 4-Door Convertible.....I'm not that good.....but I was called in to help. The customer wanted the vehicle upgraded to power windows and door locks. He also insisted that all four windows had One-Touch Up and Down operation, like a modern Mercedes. Also, that the door locks were keyless entry and that the key fob would "pop" the trunk and open the gas fill door.
I made a plan with the restorer. They installed the power motors and mechanism, then ran the wires to a central point. I installed all of the electronic modules and relays to accomplish the rest. This picture shows the finished "command center", which is then covered by a steel panel. Peeling back the carpet does not even reveal the addition, it is only recognized when you tap the power window switch.
CUSTOM INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS
You don’t have to look at the same GM instrument cluster as everyone else. Many possibilities exist for change. In this case an upgrade to Stainless Steel.
UNUSUAL REQUESTS
I do not dictate tastes and preferences. But, if you are going to park your white Mercedes SL in Miami with the top down, how are you supposed to recognize it? This customer wanted the door panels changed to Burberry. He was finding that the job required multiple people, disassembly of the doors and reupholstering. Topped by the fact that no one wanted to take responsibility for the other's work.
So, he presented the challenge to me. This is not a job that I am promoting or ever expect to do again. I want to show a final example of the unusual requests that I do entertain and get talked in to.
